Note that the old rub rails eventually “ripple.” It is money well spent to replace the rub rail with a new one from Wefco Rubber, given the fairly low price (Less than $300 if I recall correctly). Also note the checkerboard step pad molded into the gel coat along the top of the gunwale. The trick is to find a way to save this when you repaint. My painter is doing gelcoat repair on it and plans to then paint around it. If you paint it you may lose some of the original texture. We'll see….
